OPAL cares about the environment and the community. OPAL has an 8kW solar panel system which generates more than enough power for daytime use. Almost 100% of the waste that leaves the club every day is recycled and doesn’t end up in a landfill.
The restrooms have fixtures that use low-flow or no water at all. The low flush toilets save over 34,000 gallons of water every year and waterless urinals save over 44,000 gallons annually. That’s an annual water savings of almost 80,000 gallons.
Any paper products used at OPAL are made from recycled paper and all cleaning products are biodegradable. The appliances are all energy efficient.
The light bulbs are also energy efficient and almost all of them are LED. Before the upgrade to LED, OPAL used over 14,000 of kilowatt-hours per year. Since switching to LED, the number is down to 5,900 kilowatt-hours per year. That’s an energy savings of 8,300 kWh/year.
Timers have been installed on the refrigerators and ice machines, and motion detectors on lights. The glassware is polycarbonate, which means it’ll last forever. Polycarbonate is the shatter-resistant plastic used to make bullet-proof glass. It’s tough, lightweight, and won’t crack, break or have to be replaced.
OPAL is environmentally responsible and supports people living happy healthy lives.
